MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers bounced back in a big way Friday night, shutting out Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 24-0 behind a strong defensive performance and a late offensive surge.
Both teams battled through a defensive struggle early, with multiple punts keeping the game scoreless. The Tigers finally got on the board after a botched Bucks punt snap rolled out the back of the end zone for a safety, giving Mobridge-Pollock a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers continued to make plays on defense and special teams but couldn’t capitalize on several good field-position opportunities, taking the 2-0 lead into halftime.
The defensive battle continued into the second half. After a big punt from Trueth Crow Ghost pinned the Bucks deep, Mobridge-Pollock forced another safety to extend its lead to 4-0.
Crow Ghost was a constant spark for the Tigers throughout the night, making an impact in every phase of the game. His all-around effort earned him Burger King Player of the Game honors.
The Tigers finally broke through offensively midway through the fourth quarter. On fourth-and-7 from the 8-yard line, Easton Eisemann found the end zone for Mobridge-Pollock’s first touchdown of the night.
Eisemann struck again on the next possession, connecting with Kale Knudson on a long touchdown pass. Kyson Good Shield then capped the scoring with a patient touchdown run, giving the Tigers three touchdowns in the final eight minutes.
After falling 35-6 to Rapid City Christian in their Homecoming game, Mobridge-Pollock responded with a 24-0 shutout and a much-needed bounce-back victory.
The Tigers will have a bye next week before returning home September 25 to host Aberdeen Roncalli. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
