Pierre, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Education (DOE) announced that a fifth cohort of the South Dakota Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway (SD TAP) program will be offered. Current paraprofessionals and teacher aides are encouraged to apply before the Nov. 10 deadline.
SD TAP’s Cohort 5 is open for applications until 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 10. All applicants must be employed as a paraprofessional or teacher aide with a South Dakota-accredited school. Following the applicant’s submission, school districts will be required to complete a recommendation form once they are contacted by DOE.
This cohort will begin in January 2027, and selected candidates will complete their coursework for elementary education or special education through Dakota State University or coursework for secondary education through Northern State University. Towards the end of their two-year program, the apprentices will complete student-teaching in their home district.
Interested candidates can visit the SD TAP page to learn more about the program and apply.
