Lucille was born January 16, 1930 to Carl and Gertie (Olson) Haiwick. She grew up during the depression on her family’s farm in Hyde County, South Dakota. Her first 8 years of education were in a one-room country schoolhouse. After that, she boarded in town, graduating from Highmore High School in 1948.
Lucille married her high school sweetheart, Jim Myers, in 1949 after working for a year at a job she thoroughly enjoyed at the local bank. They spent 55 happy years together farming and ranching in northern Hyde County until Jim’s death in 2004.
Being a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (Sedgwick), Lucille helped with teaching Sunday School, participated in the Ruth Circle, and volunteered wherever she was needed.
Lucille enjoyed baking, sewing, crafting, gardening, tending to her flowers and yard, square dancing, traveling, and making her home the inviting place it was. She was the ultimate homemaker. Nothing pleased her more than having family and friends visit. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 4 children: Greg (Wanda) Myers, Gary (Kay Ann) Myers, Cheryl (Tim) Houdek, and Brenda (Tom) Wehkamp. 12 grandchildren: Ben (Julie ) Myers, Tom Myers, Eric (Courtney) Myers, Rachel, (Brent) Lorentz, Adam Danny Myers, Angela (Jamin) Ratzlaff, Marcus Houdek, Melissa (Dillon) Morris, Annie (Francis) Noonan, Brittany (Jeff) Mai, Jim Wehkamp, and Michelle (Tyler) Bean; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three siblings: Ethel Engle, Leonard Haiwick, and Ruby Hjordt; and grandson, Adam Danny Myers.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Lucille’s arrangements.
