A 22 year old man from Pierre convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person has been sentenced in US District Court.
Nathen Doherty, a/k/a Nathan Doherty was given time served which equals 38 days, 18 months of supervised release and forfeiture of a firearm.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred in May 2018 at a house in Pierre, wherein Doherty, knowing he was an unlawful user of a controlled substance, knowingly possessed a Remington Express Super Magnum, 12 gauge, pump-action shotgun. The shotgun was found in Doherty’s bedroom along with marijuana, marijuana wax, multiple baggies and a digital scale. Doherty also tested positive for marijuana.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone. This case is also part of Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s signature initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.
