Judy was born May 20, 1946 at Fort Yates, ND, to parents Hobart Gates and Loretta Crowfeather (née Demery). Judy met the love of her life, David “Butch” Thompson, early on and the two were first married in August of 1962. From this union, their only child, a daughter, was born, Janet Marie. She loved “Butch” so much that she married him three times.
Judy had a big heart. Everyone knew her to be kind, gentle and always willing to help-out when needed. She treasured everything her grandson did and would keep tabs on his accomplishments and travels. She was also Godmother to seven children and she loved them all with all her heart. Judy loved being around people and always had an ear for anyone’s stories over a cup of coffee. She enjoyed playing pool and darts, but she will probably best be remembered as a classic bingo queen –enjoying anytime she could make it to a game. Judy was a dedicated worker and was employed at a variety of jobs throughout her life. She was a dorm matron, bartender, bowling alley clerk, nurse’s aide and spent many years as a cook for various schools. She finally retired to focus solely on caring for her husband’s health.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Thompson, Kenel; grandson, Jerl Thompson, Mandan; sister, Eileen Crowfeather, Mobridge; brother, Larry Crowfeather, Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Thompson; grandson, Cody Thompson; mother, Loretta Crowfeather; father, Hobart Gates; brother, Morris Crowfeather; two sisters, Mary Ann and Joanne Crowfeather.
