Gravesite Services for Doris Bagola age 82 of Eagle Butte, SD will be at 11 AM, MT on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery, LaPlante, SD under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Family and friends will process from the 4 mile at 10 AM, CT on Saturday to process to Cemetery for services. Doris entered the Spirit World on December 3, 2020 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Doris Olive Bagola (Big Maine) was born June 7, 1938 at the Cheyenne River Old Agency. She was one of the two daughters born to David Big Maine and Rose Gabe.
Doris spent her childhood in Old Agency until her adult life. She then moved to Eagle Butte, SD where she lived the remainder of her life with her children and grandchildren until she entered the Spirit World.
She met Henry White Dog and with this union they had 5 children born David, Henrietta, Donald, Adell, Gerald. Years later she married Melvin Bagola Sr., with this marriage they had 3 children Darrn, Melva, Melvin Jr.
Doris had a great sense of humor. She like to visit, laugh, and mostly tease everyone. Anytime spent with Doris was always a good time. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing. If someone was too tired to dance, she would grab someone else and keep going. Cooking was something she did especially well. If someone were hungry Doris would fill them up with her soups, bread and her baking. She made sure everyone was full.
Doris worked at the Indian Health Services as Nursing Assistant, she worked there for years until her health circumstances changed.
Doris met Joseph “Sandy” Holy Bear the companion, she spent the rest of her life with. They lived on Jefferson Street. She loved and raised all her children, grandchildren, and also great grandchildren. She was always proud of everyone’s accomplishments and she had a big heart for a tiny woman.
Doris is survived by her companion Joseph “Sandy” Holy Bear, daughter Adell White Dog, sons Darren and Melvin Jr Bagola, niece’s Alvina “Bena” Martin, Samantha Martin, sister Doris White, niece Agiline Monclair, nephews Tyson and Tyrone White family, grandchildren Clara Three Legs, Deanna White Dog, Joe White Dog Jr., Mary (Brent) O’Denell, Krystal Three Legs, Harold (Stephanie) Three Legs, Henry (Kira) Three Legs, Katherine Three Legs, Trevor (Trista Janis) Three Legs, Ramona (Oscar High Elk) Three Legs, Sturt Horn, Brandon (Fancee) Bagola, Carl White Eagle, Karly White Eagle, Briar Bagola, Ramone Bagola, Melvin Bagola III, Jordan Bagola, Jeremiah Bagola, Gabriel Baker, James Baker, Courtney White Dog, Teresita Stonechild, She had many great grandchildren that she loved and cared for.
Proceeded in death by her parents, David Big Maine, Rose Gabe, sons Gerald, David, Donald White Dog, daughter Henrietta White Dog- Rave, Melva Walton-Bagola, great grandchildren Brandi Rose, Michael, Stoney, Michelle Baker, granddaughter Carol Strong Heart, cousin Alfred Gabe.
Casket bearers will be Carl White Eyes, Brandon Bagola, Gabriel Baker, Briar Bagola, Stuart Horn, John Horn, Corey Straight Head, Tyson White, Ramon Bagola, Trevor Three Legs, Katherine Three Legs, Cap LeCompte.
