The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 vaccination was activated last week (Feb. 11, 2021) in South Dakota, but a Pierre pharmacy on the list still hasn’t received it’s allotment of vaccine.
Brother’s Pharmacies, Inc.– more commonly known in Pierre and Fort Pierre as Shane’s Pharmacy– was supposed to be one of 13 across the eastern side of the state to get doses of the vaccine. But, a spokesperson yesterday (Feb. 17) told DRG Media Group their shipment has not yet arrived.
State Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says she doesn’t know yet what’s causing the delay.
Malsam-Rysdon encourages people to be aware of all of their options for getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
The participating retail pharmacies were to receive an initial allotment of 2,600 doses a week, which is separate from the state’s weekly allotment of doses.
Malsam-Rysdon says as the vaccine supply increases, participating locations and their designated allotment are also expected to increase.
