Funeral services for Lois H. Hrabe, 95, of Chamberlain, SD will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday prior to the funeral at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dakota Milestones, 117 E Beebe Ave, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
Lois Henrietta (Hass) Hrabe was born May 2, 1925 to Henry and Ida Hass in Chamberlain, SD. She attended school and graduated from Chamberlain High School in May of 1944. She acquired a teaching certificate after high school and taught at the Barry Country School. Lois was united in marriage to Sanford Hrabe on June 23, 1946. They had one daughter Sandra Kay Hrabe.
During her younger years she helped work at a family grocery store “Henry’s Market”. Lois worked as Secretary at the United Church of Christ for 20 years and also sang in the choir. She later worked as Secretary for the Chamber of Commerce for many years. Lois and Sanford worked tirelessly for the start of the Adjustment Training Center, now known as Dakota Milestones where for several years Lois also worked as a secretary.
Lois enjoyed listening to Polka music including Lawrence Welk and Molly B. on Saturday nights at home. She liked to play cards and was a member of several bridge clubs. Lois liked to attend the home baseball games of the Chamberlain Mallards and when her family came to visit she would make sure to take everyone to the Bridgette or Dairy Queen for ice cream. Lois enjoyed playing rummie or Mexican dominoes with the great nieces and nephews when they would come to visit.
Lois and Sanford enjoyed traveling around the U.S. visiting family and friends or traveling with the South Dakota Stock Growers Association both domestic and international. They also traveled to the Octoberfest (Winnebago Rally) in Minot, ND. They traveled in their motorhome to all the lower 48 states and also vacationed to Alaska and Hawaii.
Lois passed away on March 19, 2021 at Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. She is survived by her husband Sanford Hrabe, daughter Sandra Hrabe, nieces and nephew Debra Tomlin, Victoria Hass- Buente, Michael Hass, 8 great nieces & nephews, and 10 great-great nieces & nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Henry and Ida Hass, and her brother Robert J. Hass.
She was loved by all.
