UPDATE FEBRUARY 28, 2022:
A Fort Thompson woman convicted of Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer has been sentenced by a federal court judge.
36 year old Jennifer Surrounded must spend 22 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release and pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on February 12, 2021, in Fort Thompson. Surrounded assaulted an officer with a knife while the officer was engaged in the performance of his official duties.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services, Crow Creek Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuted the case.
Surrounded was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
MARCH 31, 2021:
A Fort Thompson woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assaulting, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer.
35 year old Jennifer Surrounded pled not guilty.
Court information says on February 12, 2021, in Fort Thompson, Surrounded assaulted an officer with a knife while the officer was engaged in the performance of his official duties.
The maximum penalty if convicted is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release and restitution may be ordered.
Surrounded was remanded to the custody of the US Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
