Tyler Michael Hoffer was born February 26, 1981 in Mitchell, SD, to Joyce (Buum) Hoffer and Mike Hoffer, Sr. He graduated in 2000 from Lyman High School in Presho, SD.
As a teenager, during the summer months, Tyler worked with his grandpa Daniel on the farm. Over time they developed an unbreakable bond. After high school, Tyler stayed in Chamberlain to work at the Chamberlain Locker. He lived with his sister Christena for many years. The pair shared so many memories of their youthful days and everyone knew the special place in his heart he had for her.
Tyler continued to work at the Chamberlain Locker for the entirety of his adult life. The Locker crew was his second family. He enjoyed what he did and was a craftsman at it, earning the nickname “Meat.”
Tyler loved the outdoors and he loved to spend his free time fishing. Whether it was his Saturday morning off from work pulling plugs with his favorite fishing partner and son, Brody, or the annual ice fishing tournament with his partner and brother, Michael, he was always looking to fill a limit of walleyes.
Tyler also looked forward to Tuesday Night Fishing League where the “Bossman” Stacy and he would go try to dominate the rest of the local fishermen. When fishing in the summer months got tough, he would always accept the invite to go handlining with his brothers Brent and Michael. Needless to say, everyone who knew Tyler, knew exactly where to go if they wanted some fresh fish to fry.
If Tyler wasn’t fishing or hunting, he loved sitting around a campfire telling old stories with his friends and family. He also loved to hustle the pool table every now and again and was always ready to shoot some stick.
Tyler met the love of his life Brittney in October 2012 in Chamberlain. He always said she was the best thing that ever happened to him and he couldn’t believe someone so beautiful would fall for him. They were united in marriage on September 26, 2020. They brought two beautiful children into the world, Brody (age 6) and Nellie (age 1).
His children were Tyler’s greatest joys and he was head over heels for them both. When Brody found a fondness for the sport of golf, his dad was determined to join him. Tyler tried his best to get out and swing his clubs with him, either just in the backyard or at the Country Club. The smile shown on baby Nellie’s face when she saw her Daddy would make anyone’s heart melt.
Tyler passed away on April 1, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD, at the age of 40 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife, Brittney of Chamberlain; children Brody and Nellie; father, Mike Hoffer, Sr. of Reliance; mother Joyce Hoffer of Chamberlain; sister Christena Hoffer of Chamberlain; two brothers, Michael (Melissa) Hoffer, Jr. and Brent (Allyssa) Hoffer, both of Reliance, SD; grandfather, Daniel of Reliance; grandparents Roger and Marlys Buum of Chamberlain; in-laws Lonnie and Gerri West of Minnesota; brothers-in-law Shawn (Heather) West and Tyler West, all of Minnesota; nieces and nephews Christian, Caden, Nevaeh, Gavin, Kamrie, Morgan, Blake, Iver, and Roman; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
