Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre will accept walk-ins during its COVID-19 vaccination clinics tomorrow (April 15) and next week (April 22).
The walk-in appointments tomorrow from 8am-12:30pm and Thursday, April 22 from 4-7:30pm are first come, first serve.
Both clinics will take place on the ground level of the “old” hospital building on Dakota Avenue. Masks are required. Clinic participants should use Parking Lot F and enter through Door 8. An entrance for wheelchairs is located off Washington Avenue.
Avera St. Mary’s President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mikel Holland says when you arrive, screening staff will measure your temperature and guide you through the process. He says you’ll complete a form, receive the vaccine and schedule your second shot. Everyone getting vaccinated takes part in a 15-minute observation period.
Holland says the Pfizer vaccine will be administered at both clinics. He says Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for people ages 16-17 and those under the age of 18 must have parental or guardian consent.
Holland says second dose appointments are scheduled approximately 21 days after the first shot. He says the second dose almost doubles the vaccine’s effectiveness.
You may also schedule an appointment online for either COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Pierre at Avera.org/covid-vaccine.
