A 26 year old woman from Pierre faces several charges after multiple hit-and-run incidents and vehicle pursuit in Pierre late last night (June 16, 2021).
According to the Pierre Police Department, officers were called to a hit-and-run traffic crash at a business in the 1700 block of North Garfield Avenue shortly before 10pm. While officers on scene were conducting their investigation, another officer in the 700 block of East Wells Avenue located the vehicle believed to be involved. The officer attempted to stop the car; however, the driver–Crystal PayPay– fled and a pursuit ensued.
PayPay’s vehicle collided with multiple other parked vehicles and objects during the pursuit, including a City of Pierre Electric Department transformer, which resulted in a power outage. PayPay’s car ultimately became disabled after striking a camper parked on the street near the intersection of Erskine and Jackson.
PayPay was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:
