The City of Pierre is working through the process needed to clean out the city’s water lines in preparation for the new water treatment plant coming online next year.
Jeff Runyan, city construction operations manager, says they’ve finished flushing the lines in Zone 1 and are nearly finished with Zone 2. He says so far, it’s going well.
The unidirectional water line flushing started about two weeks ago and involves using water pressure to remove any material that has collected in the pipes. Runyan says it’s difficult to guess how long it will take to get through all six zones in Pierre because some areas have more material to clean out than others.
