Man killed in Friday morning accident in Draper was from Mitchell

UPDATE FEBRUARY 7, 2022:

A 51 year old man from Mitchell died early Friday morning (3:30am Feb. 4, 2022) in a one-vehicle crash in Draper.

Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates Jason Buie was driving a 2020 GMC Equinox northbound on 279^th Avenue when it went through the intersection of South Dakota Highway 248 and Cemetery Road. The vehicle hit a stop sign, went off the roadway and struck a grain bin loaded with corn. Both the vehicle and corn started on fire.

Buie was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use is under investigation.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The name of the person involved is not yet being released.

The 51-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use is under investigation.
