BROOKINGS – St. Thomas More dropped top-seed Wagner and Hamlin pulled away late to beat West Central in the semifinals of the SDHSAA Class A Girls State Tournament at Frost Arena. More is attempting to win its first championship since 2017, the last of five straight titles. Hamlin makes the final game for the second straight year.
Semifinals
St. Thomas More 48, Wagner 35
Reese Ross was dominant inside for More (21-3), with 23 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. Mairin Duffy scored 11.
Emma Yost scored 14 with 11 rebounds for Wagner (22-2). Ashlyn Koupal scored 13 for the Red Raiders, who hit only 29 percent from the field.
Hamlin 52, West Central 38
Hamlin (23-2) trailed by one after three quarters, but then took charge of the game with a 16-2 run. Brooklyn Brandriet scored 17 to lead the Chargers. Kami Wadsworth scored 13.
Rylee Haldeman scored 14 and Tabor Teel had 10 for West Central (22-3).
Consolation
Red Cloud 64, Lakota Tech 44
Stevi Fallis scored 27 and hit four three-pointers to lead Red Cloud (21-3). Sharissa Haas scored 12 for the Crusaders, who never trailed.
Tobi Carlow poured in 18 for Lakota Tech (20-3).
Dakota Valley 47, Sioux Falls Christian 42
After leading by 13 in the first half, Dakota Valley (20-5) held on to win behind 19 points by Peyton Tritz, who hit five three-pointers. Rylee Rosenquist scored 16 with 14 rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Ellie Lems had 15 for Sioux Falls Christian (20-5).
