SIOUX FALLS – Defending champion Roosevelt survived and Harrisburg outlasted Mitchell in an incredible first-round game at the SDHSAA Class AA Boys State Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
O’Gorman and Sioux Falls Washington eased to evening wins.
Sioux Falls Roosevelt 57, Yankton 49
The Rough Riders, defending AA state champions, led by 12 at halftime before holding off a Yankton rally.
Roosevelt (22-0) was led by 15 points from Marcus Phillips, 14 points from Micah Johnson and 11 points by Vance Borchers.
Mac Ryken scored 14 for Yankton (13-9).
Harrisburg 78, Mitchell 77 (3 OT)
Jacoby Mehrman hit a shot in the paint with four seconds left in the third overtime to give Harrisburg the win in a remarkably tight game. Neither team led by more than five points.
Mehrman, who scored 26 for Harrisburg (15-7), gave the game its 15th and final lead change. Ethan Determan scored 25 for the Tigers.
Caden Hinker scored 29 points with 19 rebounds and five blocked shots for Mitchell (14-8). Charlie McCardle and Dylan Soulek scored 19 each.
O’Gorman 57, Sioux Falls Lincoln 34
O’Gorman (19-2) pulled away with a 17-3 run after leading by only three late in the second quarter.
David Alpers scored 15 with 11 rebounds for the Knights. John Costello scored 14 points.
Khalil Cisse scored 15 for Lincoln (12-9).
Sioux Falls Washington 66, Sioux Falls Jefferson 56
Mikele Kambalo scored 20 for the Warriors (14-7), who never trailed. Angok Akot scored 12 with 11 rebounds. Mandalla Mohamed also scored 11.
Taylen Ashley scored 23 on 8-of-14 shooting for Jefferson (12-10). Griffin Wilde had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
