EAGLE BUTTE, SD – Alan Wade Guardipee, 60, of Eagle Butte, SD passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the CRST Bingo Hall Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Burial will follow in Green Grass Cemetery, Green Grass. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2026, with a procession from 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.
Alan Wade Guardipee was born on July 14, 1965, into the Bear Creek Oyate. He was dearly loved by his mother, Grace Eye Larrabee, and was surrounded by love within the Bear Creek community from his uncles and aunties, Nathan and Mae Bagola, Joyce Bad Male, and Eleanor Dupree. Alan was raised by his grandparents, Sampson and Annie (Little Wounded) Eye and Moses and Helen Bad Male.
Alan attended school in the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School District, the Brigham City, Utah school system, and later graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Junior High. He also attended Marty Indian School, where he won an art show with a painting that was displayed at the Denver Art Museum. Alan later earned his GED in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and received an Associate of Science degree from Northern State University on December 19, 1998.
Throughout his life, Alan held many positions, including Education Assistant at Eagle Center, Counselor for CRST Vocational Rehabilitation, and GED Instructor for the former CRST College.
When Alan turned 18, he moved to sunny California. There he met Cindy Brings Plenty through her cousins and brother, Marvin Brings Plenty. From this union, their daughter, Danielle Brooke, was born on May 10, 1984. Alan loved California life, enjoying family gatherings, cookouts, and trips to the beach. His sister-in-law, Karen, affectionately gave him the nickname “Gerber Baby,” which stayed with him throughout his life. During this time, Alan also became a loving stepfather to Cindy’s sons, Trevino and Sheldon, whom he cared for with compassion and love.
After returning to South Dakota, Alan met Georgianne Baker. Together they had two daughters, Eunice Mae (born October 6, 1998) and Krysta Ann-Marie (born September 11, 2002). Alan also took in and raised five boys: Devero, John, Kevin, Alex, and Leighton. Alan, Georgianne, and their children lived in Bear Creek, Rapid City, and Eagle Butte.
Alan was a kind, respectful, and caring person who enjoyed life and its special moments. He loved cooking, family gatherings, and spending time with friends and loved ones. He was known for his warm smile, infectious laughter, artistic talent, and charismatic personality. Alan was a good friend to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Alan is survived by his daughters, Danielle Brooke, Eunice Mae, and Krysta Ann-Marie; mother, Grace E. (Eye) Larrabee, and stepfather, Llewelyn Larrabee; sisters, Debra Guardipee and LuAnn Oas; brother, Brian Larrabee; nieces and nephews, Leighla Guardipee, Logan Stengel, Merri Allyn, and Kenny Jr.; special aunts, Eleanor Dupree, Sonya Holy Eagle, Carol Charging Thunder, MonaLisa Dunsmore, and Hazel Brings Horses; special uncle, Carlin Brings Horse; cousins, whom he considered a sister and brother, Delores Bagola and Dale Bagola; sons, Devero, Leighton, Alex, John Kevin, and Trevino; and grandchildren, Trevin, Cruz, Suta, Yamni, Angel, Damien, Israel, Kimmie, Zena, Arabella, Tokala, Haylee, Isabella, Ana, Harper, KeniLee, Marty, Isaiah, and Jordan Wade.
Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sampson John and Annie (Little Wounded) Eye; aunts and uncles: Joyce Bad Male, Mae and Nathan Bagola, and Jimmy Brings Horse; nieces, SheyAnne Heather and Shawn-Marguirite Arlana Bruguier; son, Sheldon Raymore; and cousins, Nadine Bagola, Darlene Bagola, Leonard Bagola, and Jamie Bagola.
Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He held a special place in the hearts of many and, as everyone knew, was especially cherished by his mother. His memory, laughter, kindness, and love will remain with his family and friends forever.
