PRESHO, SD – Alberta May (Hulce) Groth Verzani, 79, of Presho, SD, died at her home on April 26, 2026. A graveside service will take place at 11:00am on Monday, May 4, 2026 at the Vivian Cemetery.

Alberta was born on December 28, 1946 to Albert and May (Darling) Hulce at Ida Mallet’s house in Presho. She grew up in Vivian with 8 brothers and one sister. She graduated from Vivian High School. After high school she moved to California where she met Wayne Groth Sr. and they were married on June 24, 1968 in the Little Chapel of Flowers in Las Vegas, NV. They had two children, Wayne Jr. and Shannon. After a few years they moved their family back to South Dakota and settled in Presho. Alberta worked at Hutch’s Café as a cook for many years. She became widowed in 1985. After her kids were out of the home she moved to Corsica for a few years before returning to Presho. Alberta and Shannon ran a small business, Frank’s Pizza, and she bartended at the City Bar until her health forced her to retire. She was a member of the Vivian Auxiliary.

Alberta is survived by her children: Wayne Groth Jr and Shannon Groth both of Presho, five grandchildren: Sarah Groth of Aberdeen, Shelly (Joe) Ashpole of Eagle Lake, MN, Samantha Groth of Foreman, ND, Steven Groth of Aberdeen and Scott Groth of Watertown, and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Claude (Ann) Hulce of California and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 7 brothers and 1 sister.
