EAGLE BUTTE, SD – Devona T. Pretty Weasel, 51, of Eagle Butte, entered the spirit world, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. A wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2026, at the church with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.
Devona Teress Pretty Weasel was born July 11, 1975, in Eagle Butte, SD, to Donovan and Diane (High Elk) Pretty Weasel. She joined her five siblings, Jerilyn, Lyman, Donna, Dondra, and Teri.
Devona attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School and received her G.E.D. She later met Robert Red Water, and from their union, their son, Don’E Grant Red Water, was born. Devona always considered Don’E her greatest blessing and loved her one and only son dearly until her passing.
Devona met Sheldon Red Bear on December 2, 2016, and they remained happily together until his passing on February 3, 2026. His passing was devastating to Devona. She had one stepdaughter, Jordana Hollow Horn, whom she loved very much. Devona also helped her siblings raise their children and took great pride in being there for her family. Most recently, Devona and Sheldon raised Tanner Reynolds, whom they lovingly considered their baby. Devona also helped raise her brother’s children, Trenton, Tristan, McClay, Cooper, and Trevis, and was very proud of each of them.
Devona worked at many different places throughout her life, too many to list. She ran cross country while in school, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. She enjoyed family dinners, birthday parties, and attending fun events with the children. Devona also helped raise her brother’s children, Trenton, Tristan, McClay, Cooper, and Trevis, and was very proud of each of them.
Devona is survived by her only son, Don’E Red Water, Rapid City; her step-daughter, Jordana Hollow Horn, her parents, Donovan and Diane Pretty Weasel, Eagle Butte; her siblings, Jerilyn, Donna, Lyman, Dondra, and Teri Pretty Weasel, all of Eagle Butte; one sister-in-law who was very special to her, Leslie Oakie; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Devona was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Sheldon Red Bear; maternal grandparents, Henry Takes The Gun and Maxine High Elk; and paternal grandparents, Madrick and Pauline Pretty Weasel.
Devona will be remembered for her warm and loving heart, her friendliness, and the love she had for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
