Gerald Hale, 25, of Rapid City, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Eagle Butte.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MDT, Monday, August 3, 2026, at the CRST Bingo Hall Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Burial will follow in the Green Grass Cemetery. Wake services will be 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2026, with a procession from 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.

Gerald Shane Hale came into the world on June 12, 2001, at Pierre, South Dakota, he left for the Star Camps on Friday, July 24th, 2026. His birth was a celebration for his mother, Sharina Brown and father Clearance Hale. He was his grandmother, Judith Brown’s Shining Star and was treasured every moment of his 25 years.

During Gerald short life, he was a blessing to everyone who knew him both casually and for a longer period of time. He had the biggest smile and made all those who came into contact with him feel special. He was the center of his brother and sister’s life. Each member of his family will remember for his kindness, his constant care and how he always made sure they had both the material items they needed or just a pat on the head or the hug he so readily gave.

He was the true grandson that every grandmother wished for. In our Lakota teaching we were taught to be a Good Relative. Gerald showed us how to live this in numerous ways, as a son, a brother, a nephew, and most of all as a father, and a grandson. He and Violet Brave Heart have a baby girl, Myah who he loved with the truest love a Lakota Wichasa can give to a child. She was his truest blessing and he let everyone know this. He had many friends who will miss his friendships as the years go by.

2017 Gerald entered the Sundance at Arvol Looking Horse’s Sundance. At 16 he fell in love with the Lakota way. He was a strong dancer all the way through, praying for his people and his family. He had an aunt whom he called Mom, Tamera Hale. She had supported him for nine years. He started learning the songs and became a singer. He and his kola’s helped either along the way. Numerous Sundancer’s across CRST. Many of them would tell some goofy stories, all walks of life with Gerald. He continued sun dancing for nine years.

In 2019 he completed his GED and went straight to college. In 2020 he worked as a COVID security until the job ended. He moved to Rapid City after. There he worked on weekends at the family shelter until the time of his passing. While in Rapid Gerald continued to work, his dad Clarence was there to help him. Clarence loves and cherishes Gerald’s legacy.

Gerald is survived by his mother, Sharina Brown; father, Clarence Hale; his sisters, Tyanna, Eliza, Evon, Alixis (Pepper) and Brother Venice; his grandmother Judith Brown; his Hale family; his aunt Tamara Hale; and Violet Brave Heart the mother of his daughter Myah.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Michael Hale; grandmother Bernice Condon Hale, aunt and uncles: Malisa Hale James Hale, Sherry Salas, Jake Hale; great grandmother, Esther Buck Elk Thunder (Between Lodges) and great grandpa, Bud Condon.
