PIERRE, SD – Jay Steven Gregory, 77, of Pierre, SD, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Sioux Falls. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, September 11th at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pierre with the family greeting visitors one hour prior to the service. A private family burial we be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, SD.
He was born June 17, 1949, in Fall River County to Clinton Charles Gregory and Mildred Thelma (Schweizer) Gregory. He spent his childhood in Pierre, SD, graduating at T.F. Riggs High School.
He met Susan Gardner and married on April 20, 1971. They settled in Pierre, where they raised four children, and worked various maintenance jobs. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, gardening and neighborhood gatherings. He was the prankster amongst his friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his dog Grump in his later years.
Steve is survived by his ex-wife Susan Gregory, his children, Mandy (Jay) Waxler, Ryan Gregory, Taaron (Lenny) Hopper, Jessica (Seth) Brennan, his sisters, Melinda Gregory, Shelley (Duane) Carroll, his grandchildren, Katelyn Waxler, Gavin Hopper, Anthony Gregory, Megan Haukaas, Dillon Haukaas, Ethan Hopper and Sienna Hopper, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Millie Gregory, and his special, furry friend Grump.
