Lexi Rae Gage, age 19, of Sturgis, passed away on August 18, 2026, at her home in Sturgis.

Lexi was born on February 22, 2007, in Spearfish to Stacee Gage and Matt Schultz. She grew up south of Dupree and attended Dupree School through her freshman year.

Lexi spent her earliest years surrounded by her mom, Stacee; Grandma Marge, whom she lovingly called “Mom Mom”; Papa Harold; and Uncle Casey. From the very beginning, she had everyone wrapped around her tiny finger and quickly became the little boss of the house. As Grandma and Papa’s first grandbaby, she could do no wrong. She was the only child until her little brother Casyn was born in 2012.

Family was at the center of Lexi’s life. She shared a special and undeniable bond with her Papa and Grandma, and when she was not at home, she was often in town spending time with Aunt Carolyn, Uncle Jim, Brittany, and Lee. Trips to Rapid City usually included visits with Richard and Eleanor Diermier, where Lexi spent hours playing with her cousin Ashley Kusser. In 2014, Lexi and her family moved to Rapid City for a little over a year, and many evenings were spent at Richard’s or at the park. In 2016, they moved to Eagle Butte, where Lexi gained a forever family with her dad Kiel and brother Robert. In December 2017, the family welcomed baby brother Harley, and later they were blessed to add Aunt Tristen and little cousin Carsyn to complete her family circle.

Lexi loved spending time with the family and friends closest to her. She went coon hunting with Uncle Casey and helped feed bum calves whenever she had the chance. She had an energy that could light up a room, a laugh that made others laugh, and a playful sense of humor that drew people in. Lexi loved games, especially Yahtzee, though she could also play a mean game of checkers with Papa. She enjoyed Uno, Monopoly, basketball, volleyball, 4-H, and craft days, where she could let her imagination run. One of her favorite demonstrations was showing others how to make slime, and she was often creating a new batch at Grandma’s house. Lexi also adored spending time with her best friend Taylor Peterson, whether in Eagle Butte or at Taylor’s in the country. Lexi also loved fishing and once caught a twenty-two-inch, six-pound bass with help from her dad after worrying she might lose it. No one else was allowed to eat that fish; Lexi ate both fillets, which filled the skillet, while Dad was granted only a small bite for “helping.” She remained the fishing queen, as no one had caught a bigger one.

Lexi taught herself to play guitar and completed a senior project as part of her final year of school. She was proud of the work she put in and especially proud on the day she graduated. When her name was called and she walked across the stage, her smile stretched a mile wide. She was surrounded by love and support from family and friends both at home and in Sturgis. Her dad, Matt, and stepmom, Shondra, played an important role in helping her reach the goal of graduation.

Lexi is survived by her mom, Stacee (Kiel) Lemke; dad, Matt (Shondra) Schultz; siblings Robert, Casyn, Harley, Matthew Lemke, Cae’don Story, Sierra Koch, Micala Schultz, and Makenzie Schultz; grandparents Margaret Gage, Maurice (Sandy) Lemke, and Jeri Lemke; Uncle Casey (Tristen) Gage; Aunt Dustilyn Lemke; Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Jim Brooks; Aunt Linda (Marvin) Jensen; Lee and Brittany Brooks; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her Papa Harold Gage.

A funeral service will be held on August 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pioneer Hall. Visitation will be held on August 27, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Gage Ranch, Ash Creek Cemetery, following a light meal.
