Celebration of Life service for Richard Leroy Flying Horse, Sr., age 81, of Rapid City,  will be Saturday, July 25th, at 12:00 Noon at the Prairie Bible Church in McLaughlin.

Behrens Wilson Funeral Home & Crematory of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Leroy Flying Horse, Sr., was born on March 29, 1945, at home in Bullhead, SD, to Charlotte (Speaks Walking) and George Flying Horse.

He grew up in Bullhead, attending elementary, middle school and later attending high school in Fort Yates, ND. He got his GED while attending college at United Tribes Technical College.

He met Ruth (Bonnie) Janis in 1965 and together they started their lives together in holy matrimony. They both continued college at the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, ND.

Later on, they got on the Relocation Program, and they moved to Oakland, California, continuing their education. They eventually moved him to the Bullhead area. They were divorced in 1972.

He left Bullhead, making his way to Rapid City, SD, he was there for a time, and left for awhile travelling all over the USA. He went to Alaska, Oregon, Kansas City, Arizona, California, Wyoming, and Montana.

He was a world traveler, loved meeting new people. During his stay in Montana (Lame Deer) area, he met Lois Magpie from this short time, along came Marlene Charlotte (Magpie) Flying Horse. Once he was back in Rapid City, SD, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Iris Janis, they been together since 1982. Richard and Dorothy were together 40 years! They been through life’s ups and downs together. They were finally married August 6th, 2024. They remained in Rapid City until the time of his passing.

He leaves behind his wife, Iris Flying Horse, his daughters, Crystal Flying Horse (Cory Whirlwind Horse), MaDonna and Marlon Pappan, sons, Richie Flying Horse, Herbert Flying Horse, Tammy and Paulette Means, Shawn Michael Garner, siblings, John (Sandra) Flying Horse, Patty and Bob Nelson, Helen Paresien, Sharon Flying Horse, grandchildren, Samantha Flying Horse and Layton Eagle, Timothy Culbertson, Kimberly Culbertson, Jessie Culbertson, JJ Culbertson, Maleigha, Culbertson, Dakota Flying Horse, Charlotte Pappan, Trevor Flying Horse, Grace Flying Horse, Chandler and Austin Flying Horse, Allison Flying Horse, Tori Flying Horse, John Flying Horse, Michial Flying Horse, Jasmine Flying Horse, Gina Flying Horse, Cayse Bullhead, Ezra Blacklance, Daniel Blacklance, Adam and Talia Defender, Aiden Simon, Aniya Simon, Tyler Simon, Onyx Rose, Tiara and family (MT), Haley and family (Cannon Ball, ND), Rylee and family (Rapid City, SD).
