SPEARFISH, SD – Roberta Wolf, 76, of Spearfish, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Monument Health, Rapid City.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MDT, Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Wake services will be at 6:00 p.m. MDT, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the church, with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
A celebration of life for Spearfish family and friends will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. MDT, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Spearfish United Church of Christ, Spearfish.
Roberta Mae Running Wolf was born on May 27, 1950, to Mattie Jewitt. She attended Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School before continuing her education at Holbrook High School in Arizona.
At Christmas in 1970, she married Teddy Wolf. The two met at a community dance. Teddy began making trips to her community to visit, and from there they grew close. Theirs was a marriage built on honesty, when something weighed on either of them, they spoke openly, sought each other’s counsel, and kept nothing hidden. Together, they raised four children. Roberta had a way of softening the people around her, teaching even her husband to be more affectionate and patient and not to take life so seriously.
Above all, Roberta was kind-hearted. She welcomed strangers, enjoyed making new friends, and had a gift for reaching those others who were often overlooked, the quiet ones, the ones who kept to themselves. She extended kindness without expecting anything in return. She valued honesty and gave it freely, and she carried her sense of humor wherever she went. She was quick with a good joke, quicker to laugh at herself, and always teased the people she loved toward a brighter outlook on the day.
Roberta showed her love by feeding people. She cooked constantly, kept a mountain of cookbooks, and lived by a simple rule: if a dish turned out well, she made it again; if it didn’t, she never made it twice. Whenever someone was going through a difficult time, she was among the first to help, offering encouragement and wisdom about life’s ups and downs. If anyone wanted to learn what she knew, she was always happy to teach. She taught her children and grandchildren to sew, knit, and crochet, and lovingly made clothing and stuffed toys for them by hand.
Roberta was also a revered member of the International Sundance family. For 55 years, she and Teddy made prayer sticks for the Sundance community, offering their hands, prayers, and devotion in service to others. Many who received a prayer stick over the years received something lovingly made by Roberta and Teddy. Her daughter, Belinda, her son, Tommy, and her grandchildren, Laney and Lynnae, have honored her as Sundancer’s, carrying forward a sacred tradition that meant so much to her. Roberta was deeply appreciated by the International Sundance community and will be dearly missed.
Roberta is survived by her husband, Teddy Wolf; her son, Tommy Shaving and Nadine; her daughters, Belinda Meteba and Will, Summer Di Gioia and Stephen, and Kristal Lemke and Peter; her grandchildren, Cecilina, Tahnee, Talon, Taitlyn, Tamaori, Tiarah, Lynnae, Laney, Jalean, Kaira, Darian, Isabella, Antonio, Gianni, Piper, and Zoey; her great-grandchildren, Colbie, Dylan, Alijah, Wakinyan, Eeriah, Valerian, Colter, Kimimila, Ohiniyan Wachantkiya, Wastela, Hanwi, Chanwape, Iya, Kyomi, and Abel; and her brother, Barney Wells.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Jewitt; her brother, Wendell Deer With Horns; her sister; her sister’s children; and her granddaughter, Tiffany Shaving.
