MINNEAPOLIS – Major League Baseball released the schedule for the 60-game pandemic-shortened regular season on Monday. The Minnesota Twins will open the season against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago on Friday, July 24 at 7:10 PM CT. After three games in Chicago, the Twins will then play their home opener at Target Field against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, July 28 at 7:10 PM CT. That will begin an eight-game homestand, the longest for the Twins this season.
All teams will play 40 games against teams within their division and 20 interleague games against the corresponding division in the other league. In other words, the Twins will play 10 games each against their American League Central opponents (White Sox, Indians, Tigers, Royals) and 20 games total against teams in the National League Central (Cubs, Reds, Brewers, Pirates, Cardinals).
Games will be played without fans. The designated hitter will be used in all games, including games between National League teams. For the regular season only, extra innings will begin with a team having a runner on second base.
Before the regular season opener, the Twins will play an exhibition game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, July 22 at 6:05 PM CT.
Twins Baseball can be heard on 1060 AM/107.1 FM KGFX.
