HURON – Defending champion Northwestern was among Thursday’s winners in the first round of the SDHSAA B State Volleyball Tournament at the Huron Arena.
(1)Northwestern 3, (8)Corsica-Stickney 0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-13)
Sydney Schell paced the Wildcats (27-1) with 14 kills, 4 block assists, 2 assists and 2 digs. For the Jaguars (19-4), Morgan Delange had 7 kills and an assist.
(4)Colman-Egan 3, (5)Bridgewater-Emery 1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15)
Olivia Baumberger laced 17 kills for the Hawks (25-3). Mackenzie Hemmer had 16 kills and 17 digs. For the Huskies (21-3), Julia Weber had 10 kills and 21 digs.
(3)Chester Area 3, (6)Faulkton Area 1 (25-21, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16)
Chester Area avenged a 2019 first-round loss to Faulkton Area. Brecklyn Ewoldt had 14 kills for the Flyers (22-2) and Kenna Brown had 47 assists. . Isabel Aesoph had 13 kills and 15 digs for the Trojans (18-6).
(2)Warner 3, (7)Hitchcock-Tulare 2 (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 15-7)
Warner lost a two-set lead, then rallied again to defeat Hitchcock-Tulare. The Monarchs (23-1) were led by 16 kills and 11 assists by Jennifer Aman. Kaitlyn Schroeder had 9 kills and 23 digs for the Patriots (18-5).
