SIOUX FALLS – Ashton Griese scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period Saturday, then sealed the game with an empty-net goal late in the third period as the Oahe Capitals defeated Sioux Falls Flyers 2 at Leadership Rink 4-2.
Griese capped a three-goal second period for Oahe (10-0-0-1) by scoring in the last second of the period, then scored into the empty net with 1:39 remaining to clinch the Capitals’ biggest win so far this season.
Raef Briggs tied the game 1-1 1:11 into the second period with a powerplay goal. Sioux Falls 2 grabbed the lead again 25 seconds later, then Dre Berndt tied the game again for the Capitals with just over three minutes gone in the period. Kieran Duffy stopped 31 of 33 Sioux Falls 2 shots. Oahe had a 43-33 shot advantage.
The Capitals will meet Sioux Falls 1 in Sioux Falls on Sunday.
