At least eight members of the South Dakota House of Representatives have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week or so.
Among them is District 24 Rep. Will Mortenson of Pierre, who received his positive test result Friday. He says he started feeling unwell mid-week.
Prior to the start of the session, the Senate implemented a face mask mandate, while the House did not.
From the start of session (Jan. 12, 2021), Mortenson says legislative leadership had test protocols in place.
Mortenson says he’ll participate in the session remotely, as he feels up to it.
Other South Dakota House of Representatives members who have tested positive include Nancy York and Hugh Bartels from Watertown, Taffy Howard of Rapid City, Aaron Aylward from Harrisburg, Tom Pischke from Dell Rapids, Tamara St. John of Sisseton and Chris Karr from Sioux Falls.
At this point, no state senators have disclosed that they’ve tested positive.
