FAYETTEVILLE, AR – After winning in its NCAA Softball Tournament debut Friday, South Dakota State lost twice Saturday to be eliminated, first 4-0 to Arkansas, then 2-1 in 10 innings to Stanford at Bogle Field.
Against Arkansas, the Jackrabbits loaded the bases in both the fourth and seventh innings but did not score either time. Peyton Daugherty had three hits for SDSU.
SDSU, who had beaten Stanford on Friday, took a 1-0 lead against the Cardinal on a third-inning RBI single by Jocelyn Carillo. Stanford then tied the game in the fourth inning and grabbed the lead in the 10th inning when Eleni Spirakis drove in the go-ahead run with a double. The Jackrabbits had the tying run on in the bottom of the 10th but could not score.
SDSU’s season ended with a record of 43-8.
