A man and a woman spent some time in the water, but are safe after their boat capsized on the Missouri River today (July 26, 2021) near Pierre and Fort Pierre.
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says their Rescue Squad was called after the wind flipped a small vessel, similar to a small sailboat.
Paul says this is the way they want this type of situation to end.
There have been a handful of drownings on the Missouri River at Pierre and Fort Pierre in a little over a year. The most recent was last week (Jun 21, 2021) when 60 year old Charles Serbousek of Pierre and 6 year old Joseph Serbousek of Pierre were fishing from shore at Farm Island. Information from the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office says Charles likely died as a result of a heart attack prior to his body entering the water. Cause of death for Joseph was drowning.
