HARRISBURG – Jacob Knuth passed for four first-half touchdowns and ran for two more Friday as the Harrisburg Tigers handed the Pierre Governors their first season-opening loss since 2018, 56-20 at Harrisburg High School.
Knuth, a senior who has committed to play at the University of Minnesota, was 13-of-18 for 306 yards, throwing two touchdown strikes to Lincoln Karlson and one each to Andrew Walter and Aidan Foley. Gavin Ross rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries as the Tigers scored on six of their seven first-half possessions and amassed 512 yards of offense.
Governor quarterback Lincoln Kienholz passed for three touchdowns and was 20-of-31 for 290 yards. Jack Merkwan had TD receptions of 55 and 43 yards. Cade Kaiser caught a touchdown pass and had eight receptions for 100 yards. Kienholz also rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries.
Jayden Wiebe led Pierre in tackles with six. Lucas Colman recorded a sack. Josh Strand had a tackle for loss.
