South Dakota’s new legislative districts have been worked out, but work is still being done in many counties and towns to determine where those boundaries will be for each of them.
Fort Pierre mayor Gloria Hanson says the Central South Dakota Enhancement District is working on maps that the Fort Pierre City Council will consider.
With a city election coming up in April, Hanson says they don’t yet know if the new boundaries will impact any of the current council members.
The Fort Pierre City Council will take action on new ward boundaries in the form of an ordinance, with the first reading possibly coming as soon as their meeting next week (Nov. 15, 2021).
Pierre voters elect all five of their council members “at large” so there’s no need to establish council person wards/districts.
