PIERRE – Pierre Governor wrestlers Mylie Taylor and Blake Judson have been named as the Pierre Athletic Coaches Association-Avera Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 4, the first honorees of this winter sports season.
As the Governor girls won the Mandan Lions Invitational in Mandan, North Dakota, Taylor won the 170-pound class, taking all of her matches by pinfall. Governor girls wrestling Head Coach Matt Thorson said of Taylor, “Mylie has been a valuable teammate this season, especially for the younger girls. She is constantly helping them at practice and showing them how things are done, not only on the mat, but off the mat as well. She is a true student of the sport and is always asking questions and trying to better understand how she can improve. Mylie has a bright future in wrestling!”
Judson won at 138 pounds in Mandan with six pins and two technical falls. Boys Head Coach Shaun Lewis called Judson, a senior, “a great leader” and also said, “Blake was in the corner of every teammate cheering them on, encouraging them and helping them to understand their mistakes in defeat. Blake has always been a leader by example but is now embracing the vocal portion of leadership that this team needs.”
