During her budget address last week (Dec. 7, 2021), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem proposed a 6% pay increase for “the big three”– education, health care providers and state employees.
Pierre School District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says the increase for education is a main topic of conversation amongst his colleagues.
But, Glodt says, the proposed increase is not a done deal.
Glodt says District 24 legislators will update the school board before the start of the legislative session next month (Jan. 11, 2022).
Even if the 6% increase is adopted by the state, school districts have discretion on whether to spend the money on wages or to spend it in other areas.
