The Black Hills Drive extension project in northeast Pierre is moving forward.
This week (Jan. 4, 2022), staff engineer Nick Waters told the Pierre City Commission the street will be extended by 514 feet, connecting it to Arthur Avenue.
Waters says the additional materials and work will bring the full project cost to $600,000. Once complete, the properties adjacent to Black Hills Drive will be equipped with street, curb and gutter, water, wastewater, storm sewer and electrical utilities.
Work is expected to begin this spring and has an August 15, 2022, completion date.
Pierre Mayor Steve Harding expects this project to bode well for the northeastern portion of Pierre. He says it’s an area of the community that’s growing, so the improved vehicle access and developed utilities will make it ripe for development.
