A 34 year old man from Fort Pierre has been sentenced (Feb. 18, 2022) on two separate criminal cases– one related to methamphetamine use, the other connected to assault against a child.
Information from Stanley County States Attorney Tom Maher shows Nathan Scot Munce was originally sentenced on methamphetamine charges on November 17, 2020. Munce received a five year prison sentence, which was suspended. He was then put on supervised probation for four years.
About six months later (May 20, 2021), Munce committed domestic assault against a juvenile child by spanking his daughter with a plastic hockey stick in an unreasonable and excessive manner resulting in wounds to the child’s buttocks, and other marks.
Judge Margo Northrup revoked Munce’s five year suspended prison sentence. She then reinstated it, then resuspended it with the requirement that Munce successfully complete three years probation with no further law violations and other conditions.
In the child assault case, Munce was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with credit for five days previously served, and other conditions including a fine and court costs and further suspended jail days. Munce was remanded to the custody of the Stanley County Sheriff to serve 55 days in jail.
The response and investigation of the domestic incident involved teachers from the Stanley County School District, officers from the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from agents from the state Division of Criminal Investigation and the state Department of Social Services, Division of Child Protective Services.
A case remains pending in Juvenile Court concerning care of the children.
