Once again, a working smoke alarm saved lives today (March 1, 2022) after alerting a resident in one part of a house to a fire that had started in a different part of the structure.
Pierre Rural Fire Department Chief Doug Hinkle says they were called to the 400 block of Evolee Court at Grey Goose about 8:45am.
He says the resident reacted quickly.
Hinkle says quick action by Hughes County Sheriff’s deputies helped stop the fire from spreading.
Hinkle says there’s heavy smoke damage to the whole structure and smoke damage in the one room. He says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
