RAPID CITY – Rapid City Stevens and O’Gorman scratched out victories with strong defense Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship game of the SDHSAA Class AA Girls State Tournament at the Ice Arena at the Monument. Stevens held off Sioux Falls Jefferson to advance to the title game for the second straight year. O’Gorman controlled Brandon Valley. The Knights are trying for their first championship in five years.
Semifinals
Rapid City Stevens 54, Sioux Falls Jefferson 43
Stevens (19-4) led most of the foul-filled game. Bailey Sobczak, despite foul trouble, scored 17 points with seven rebounds. Jayda McNabb, limited to one point in a first-round win, scored 12 with nine rebounds and five assists.
Cierra Watkins hit for 11 points and Taliyah Hayes had 10 for Jefferson (12-10). Jaidyn Dunn had eight points and 15 rebounds.
O’Gorman 50, Brandon Valley 37
O’Gorman (20-3) never trailed and had 16 points and five steals from Hannah Ronsiek. Mahli Abdouch scored 14. Bergen Reilly had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Hilary Behrens scored 20 for Brandon Valley (18-5), who was held to 32 percent shooting.
Consolation
Sioux Falls Washington 46, Rapid City Central 33
Top-seeded Washington (21-2) struggled again shooting, but rebounded from their upset loss to Jefferson on Thursday. Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda scored 17 points with 10 rebounds for the Warriors, with Brooklyn Harpe adding 11.
Sadie Glade scored 17 for Central (16-7).
Harrisburg 55, Sioux Falls Lincoln 49
Sydney Hybertson hit a shot in the lane with 1:17 remaining to break a tie and begin a game-ending 6-0 run for the Tigers (10-13). Hyberson led Harrisburg with 17 points. Emilee Boyer scored 11 with 11 rebounds.
Addy Sand scored 21 for Lincoln (10-13). Mariah Siem had 14.
