MARCH 1, 2022:
Nichole Bowman, a Math teacher at TF Riggs High School, has been selected as the Pierre School District’s Teacher of the Year for 2022.
Principal Kyley Cumbow declared, “Even though Mrs. Bowman is a veteran teacher, I have observed her changing her teaching style and approach to meet the needs of our students. She demands perfection from herself and has invested so much time and energy to meet the individual needs of each one of her students. It is truly amazing. Mrs. Bowman is a teacher that has high expectations for her students, but the environment that she has created is one that is safe and positive that students rise to the occasion. She has an impact on every aspect of our school and is a teacher that, if we were to lose her, would be impossible to replace. Yes, our teachers are the backbone of our educational system, but Pierre School District benefits when our backbone is made by teachers like Mrs. Bowman.”
“Mrs. Bowman is one of the most dedicated educators I have been around in my thirty years as a teacher. I have taught in several districts and worked with many amazing educators, yet I would have to put Mrs. Nichole Bowman at the top of the list of people that I have been privileged enough to say is a colleague and friend. She is a fantastic mother, teacher, friend, human being, and a superb representative for the Pierre School District!” proclaimed fellow educator Guy Hunter.
“This is a well-deserved honor,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt, “This award reflects a teacher’s ability to inspire students from all backgrounds, exceptional skills and dedication, and a commitment to the teacher profession for years to come. This is a very tough decision each year as we have many outstanding teachers throughout the district.”

Every school district’s Teacher of the Year is considered for a regional honor, and those recipients become nominees for South Dakota Teacher of the Year, announced at the annual Systems Change Conference for educators.
