WACO, TX – South Dakota Women’s Basketball has won for the first time in the NCAA Tournament as a Division I program, defeating Ole Miss 75-61 at the Ferrell Center.
The Coyotes, the 10th seed, were led by Sully Buttes alum Chloe Lamb, who scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting with two three-pointers, four rebounds, three assists and two steals; and Hannah Sjerven, who also scored 20 on 7-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds and three steals.
Maddie Krull scored 13 and Liv Korngable had 10.
USD (28-5) shot 56 percent from the floor, hit six threes and had 19 assists on 29 field goals. The Coyotes, even going against excellent Ole Miss post player Shakira Austin, outscored the Rebels in the paint 38-22.
Austin shot only 3-of-16 and had nine points and 11 rebounds for Ole Miss (23-9). Angel Baker led the Rebels with 23 points.
South Dakota will play Sunday against second seed Baylor.
