BROOKINGS – A dominant third quarter helped South Dakota State Women’s Basketball defeat Minnesota 78-57 Sunday at Frost Arena to advance to the Round of 16 in the Women’s NIT.
Haleigh Timmer led all scorers with 22 for SDSU (25-9), while Myah Selland scored 18 with seven rebounds and six assists. Tylee Irwin scored 13, including nine in the first quarter.
At halftime, SDSU led 33-30, but then outscored Minnesota 26-10 in the third quarter, with Timmer and Selland combining for 15 points.
The Jackrabbits shot 48% from the floor and held the Gophers to 34 percent. SDSU also had a 45-30 rebounding advantage in their 22nd win in their last 24 games.
South Dakota State will play next against the winner of Monday’s game between Northern Iowa and Drake.
