NORTH PORT, FL – Byron Buxton hit a two-run homer and doubled Saturday in the Twins’ 8-6 spring training loss to the Atlanta Braves at CoolToday Park.
Buxton, who is hitting .357 this spring, hit his home run in a four-run fifth inning. He had doubled in the fourth.
Chi Chi Gonzalez again put the Twins in an early bind with a poor start. The former Texas and Colorado pitcher, who is looking to return after Tommy John surgery, allowed four runs, two hits and four walks in three innings.
After the Twins rallied, minor league pitcher Steven Cruz allowed four Atlanta runs in the seventh.
The Twins (3-7) will host Boston Sunday at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, with new shortstop Carlos Correa expected to make his first game appearance for Minnesota.
