FORT MYERS, FL – New Twins shortstop Carlos Correa singled and made an excellent defensive play Sunday in his first game in a Minnesota uniform, a 6-3 spring training win over the Boston Red Sox at Hammond Stadium.
Correa’s fine defensive play was the very first play of the game, a diving stop on a grounder by the Red Sox’ Kiké Hernández that appeared to be headed for left-center field.
In the bottom of the first inning, Correa smacked a live-drive single into left field in his first at-bat as a Twin.
Trevor Larnach capped a five-run eighth inning for the Twins with a three-run homer to right center, his second home run of the spring.
Joe Ryan had a second straight excellent start, striking out five in three scoreless and hitless innings. Taylor Rogers had another good inning, striking out two.
The Twins (4-7) will meet Tampa Bay on Tuesday in Port Charlotte, Florida.
