PIERRE – For the second time this season, Pierre Governor Girls Soccer played a thriller with the Mitchell Kernels. And for the second time, Pierre prevailed.
Jasmine Jost scored in the 88th minute Tuesday to give the Governors a 3-2 overtime win over Mitchell at the PILC Soccer Complex in the first round of the SDHSAA Girls Class A Soccer Playoffs.
Pierre won the regular season meeting with Mitchell, also at home, on September 1, 4-3, coming from three goals down in the first two minutes of the second half to win.
Elli Hughes put Pierre in front in the eighth minute with a goalmouth shot, set up by Jost.
Mia Mullenmeister evened the game for Mitchell in the 24th minute.
Bria Sargent gave Pierre a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute, shooting in the box after the ball deflected off two players.
Kenzi Kayl evened the game again for the Kernels in the 62nd minute after Pierre goalkeeper Ireland Templeton couldn’t play a Mullenmeister cross.
Templeton made seven saves in net for Pierre (9-4-1), including one on a Mullenmeister header in the second half of overtime.
Pierre will play in the quarterfinal round Saturday at 1:00 PM at top-seed Harrisburg, who defeated Yankton 5-1 on Tuesday.
