PIERRE – Pierre’s new collegiate-level baseball team will be known as the Oahe Zap.
Co-owners Jackson Bruce, Bob Habeger and Jamy Habeger presented the name and logo at a press conference Monday at Hyde Stadium.
Bruce, who served as the first general manager of the Pierre Trappers, explained why the name was chosen.
The colors will be navy blue, powder blue, bright yellow and white. In a press release, the owners of the Zap said that two more logos will be revealed at a later date.
The Zap co-owners recently entered an agreement with the City of Pierre for a lease with Hyde Stadium for 30 regular-season home games in 2023, which are expected to be in Independence League Baseball, although no final agreement with that league has yet been reached.
Jamy Habeger was the head coach of the Trappers in 2020 and 2021. Bob, Jamy’s father, is a native South Dakotan from Madison and has experience in semi-pro baseball.
Jamy Habeger said that he hopes that there will be a full roster of players set just after the first of the year.
