The South Dakota House and Senate continue to work through their calendars.
The Senate passes two bills to provide more funding for ongoing construction projects hit by inflation.
The upper chamber passed SB 18, which provides $6 million more in state money to complete the new Dakota Events Complex at the state fairgrounds in Huron. The DEX will be used for rodeos and cattle exhibitions. The vote was 26 to 9.
The Senate also passed SB 33, which allocates an additional $7.8 million to complete the Mineral Industry Building at the School of Mines in Rapid City. The vote was 32 to 3.
Both bills now go to the House for consideration.
The Senate also passed a bill decreasing the time when a run-off must be held in a primary when no statewide candidate receives 35% of the vote. HB 1112 reduces the time from ten weeks to eight weeks after the primary. The vote was 35 to 0.
It now goes to Gov. Kristi Noem for her signature or veto.
In the House, the lower chamber passed HB 1196. It allocates $5.2 million to improve the Capitol Lake area in Pierre. The vote was 62 to 6. It now goes to the Senate.
