FULL STORY: Joe Rogan has opened a new venue in Austin, Texas called the Comedy Mothership. Not surprisingly, he’s positioning it as an anti-cancel culture club. The club features two performance rooms, called Fat Man and Little Boy, and the Mitzi Shore bar and lounge area. Mitzi’s Bar and Lounge is an homage to Mitzi Shore.
Mitzi Shore is considered the Godmother of stand-up comedy. Mitzi opened the Comedy Store in 1972. Mitzi scheduled the shows, sold the tickets, cleaned the rooms, gave encouragement to the talented, and blunt direction to comics that would become household names.
When he took the stage on opening night he said, quote, “I’m drunk and on mushrooms in my new club! This is as high as I’ve ever been onstage. I need to connect with this moment . . . You can’t fire me from my own club, [B-word]!”
First-night performers included Ron White, Tim Dillon, Tony Hinchcliffe, and Roseanne Barr.
The “Hollywood Reporter” says, quote, “Within seconds of the first comic taking the stage, a gay slur was thrown out, followed by jokes about trans people. The audience hooted.
“For the anti-cancel-culture crowd, this is their new safe space.”
All the Comedy-Heads out there know how anticipated the opening of Joey Rogan’s comedy club was. As it was mentioned on his world famous podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience”, multiple times, among other places. Joe Rogan made the move from LA to Austin in 2020. Bringing a slew of comedians with him. Moving an entire era of comedy to a completely new region. Bringing the “Comedy Store Crew” with him as he embarks on this adventure of the “other” side of comedy. Rogan is essentially creating a comedy scene out of thin air, and not just any comedy scene, but perhaps one of the BIGGEST we’ve seen, definitely in recent times. How tempting.. to be a part of HISTORY! Comedy history that is.. Ha!
