RAPID CITY – Six-time defending champion Sioux Falls Christian advanced with very little trouble, but Rapid City Christian and Miller were pushed to the limit in first round wins Thursday in the SDHSAA Class A State Volleyball Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument.
Sioux Falls Christian def. Lennox, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15
The Chargers (33-4) made their way through a tough first set to win their 21st straight state tournament match. Taylor Byl led Sioux Falls Christian with 13 kills and an ace. Brietta Tims had 10 kills, Lavin Maddox made 11 digs and Addisen Barber had 25 assists.
Ella Grengs had 10 kills, 13 assists, three aces and two digs for Lennox (19-11) in the program’s first state tournament match since 1989.
Dell Rapids def. Platte-Geddes, 25-20, 20-25, 25-10, 25-14
Madelynn Henry struck 26 kills for the Quarriers (27-6), helping them to dominate the final two sets. Henry also had three aces and 16 digs. Lauryn Kloth had 10 kills. Elin Schoenhard and Kylee Fiddelke also served three aces each. Sophi Randall had 36 assists.
Karly VanDerWerff had 17 kills, three aces and one and a half blocks for Platte-Geddes (31-7).
Rapid City Christian def. Dakota Valley, 25-27, 25-22, 13-25, 25-14, 25-11
The Comets used big fourth and fifth sets to rally for the win. Ana Egge had 18 kills to lead Rapid City Christian (34-5). Kendall Glassbrenner had 10 kills.
Sophie Tuttle scored 22 kills and 22 digs for Dakota Valley (19-11). Samantha Kimbell and Claire Munch had 15 kills each.
