RAPID CITY – Almost single handedly, Gabi Zachariasen assured that she and her Harrisburg teammates would repeat as volleyball state champions.
Zachariasen had 30 kills Saturday, leading Harrisburg to its second straight title 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 25-20 in the championship match of the SDHSAA Class AA State Volleyball Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument.
In three state tournament matches, Zachariasen, a sophomore outside hitter, had 70 kills, including 56 combined in the semifinal and championship matches.
Harrisburg (31-0) won the fifth state title in program history and extended their winning streak to 46 matches, dating back to 2022.
Cate Legel and Kaelyn Snoozy had 11 kills each for Sioux Falls Washington (28-4).
3rd Place: Sioux Falls Jefferson def. O’Gorman, 25-18, 25-12, 25-21
Jefferson (24-3) had 11 kills from Mya Hejl and 10 from Emory Brosnahan as the Cavaliers had 54 offensive points to only 30 for O’Gorman.
Makenzie Walsh led O’Gorman (18-12) with nine kills.
5th Place: Watertown def. Brandon Valley, 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19
Emery Thury played a complete match for Watertown (27-7), with 25 kills, two aces, a solo block, three block assists and 21 digs.
For Brandon Valley (16-15), Abby Gruber had 18 kills and Jersie Melcher scored 16.
7th Place: Sioux Falls Lincoln def. Aberdeen Central, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17
Lincoln (15-12) had 13 blocks and six aces to win seventh place. Linnea Nesheim had eight kills, two aces and five block assists.
Ashley Wangler hit 13 kills and Lauryn Burckhard had 11 for Aberdeen Central (14-14).
