GOLDEN, CO – One of the best football seasons ever for Augustana was halted by the top-ranked team in Division II.
John Matocha passed for three touchdowns and ran for one Saturday as Colorado Mines overwhelmed Augustana 56-10 at Alumni Field at Marv Kay Stadium.
The Orediggers (12-0) led 28-3 at halftime behind a Matocha touchdown run and pass, a Noah Roper touchdown run and and an end zone fumble recovery by Nolan Reeve.
Casey Bauman threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Logan Uttecht for the only touchdown for the Vikings (11-2) in the third quarter.
Augustana’s 11 wins tied a school record. The Vikings won the NSIC championship for the program’s first outright conference title since 1959.
